Foglamps aren't required if you can see 10 cars ahead on a motorway. If you do need them, Don't leave them on when conditions improve.
On back roads where visibility is reduced to the extent that braking distances should be reduced, although still not requiring fog lamps, don't drive on my rear bumper.
Oh yes, and sidelights aren't really adequate on a grey/ silver car in such conditions for oncoming drivers to see you very far ahead.

Out on the bike this morning. Thick fog blowing in off the Thames/Medway marshes. Att a guess I would say 1/10 had no lights on at all and 1/4 had just sidelights. To quote my mate's ex-gf, "I can see where I'm going, why do I need lights on?".
I'm afraid a lot of the population have this mindset...

Had it last night where people were hanging off my rear bumper. I assumed they were tailgating because they wanted to get past as I was driving a little slower than I would normally because of the fog, but no - they just wanted coat tails to ride along on.
I think people forget that being the lead car is a bit harder than following someone when the weather's bad, especially when you're having to make decisions that'll affect the 3 cars behind you as you know they wont be able to do anything in the space they've left themselves.

It's odd that a pair of 5W bulbs on the front of a car are inadequate when the same pair of 5W bulbs on the rear are plenty bright enough.
