Calling all "Shape Collage" users - Help

Following on from my request for suggestions for a Photo Collage maker, I purchased a licence for Shape Collage.
I have been trawling my photo collection and have created my first collage, consisting of approx 500 pictures in the shape of my daughters name.
At this point i require some advice on printing this collage. I would like to be able to see some fot he detail in the pictures and hence would like the collage to be fairly big. What is the minimum size that one can print these collages, but still be able to see the individual photos?
Can anyone tell me if 500 photos is too many for this type of collage? if so, how many should i aim for?

That's really up to you.
We use Shape Collage at work (http://www.canvashut.com) for quickly creating random collages of multiple pictures. We export from shape as a PSD and rework them in Photoshop to make sure there are no faces covered etc. It's a very useful tool.
Obviously, the more images you have, the smaller they will have to be to fit onto the size you want it printed. Set your dimentions at 300dpi too to ensure you get a decent printable image out of Shape.
All I can really suggest is that you set your dimentions and get shape to create the collage. Then just roughly work out in your head how large each image is going to be when printed to the dimentions you've asked. When getting Shape to layout a word, you will need a lot of images though. Fewer images will make the word less readable. 500 images is a lot though. Maybe half that?
Just play around with it. It's a fun tool.
