So last summer, actually September, I picked up my 1500 mile new shape BMW M6. Great car I thought - German engineering, great double clutch gear box, looks great (in my eyes) and rare (which I quite like). Of course depreciation would be horrible and I knew exactly what I was getting myself into there - recently had a bid on it of £57k from a dealer. That’s £18k less than what I paid for it 6 months ago. Ouch.
I only do 8000 miles per year and don't use a car at all Monday to Friday. I would have liked to buy something a bit more Italian instead of the BMW, but I don't have a garage and I once owned a 550 and it was a completely miserable experience, even though it looked great and was very special. I've also had a few Porsches - new and old - and just fancied a change from that and a 911 is not a practical car if you need rear seats fairly regularly. I also think 4 door Porsches are ugly
I like cars that you can actually use so German super saloons and estates and potentially coupes (if rear leg room) are my thing – something useable. The is the M6 is an enormous car and it simply doesn't fit into your average car parking space. It's very long and the doors are so big, getting out of it is a pain. I also (most of all) live in fear of people bashing it with their doors and scraping it. The rear seats (something I'd like to use more often moving forward due to a change in circumstances) are non existent.
I have only covered 2000 miles in it in 6 months and I’m seriously thinking about changing it to a C63 saloon for £35-37k and buying a Caterham (which will fit in an outside storage thing I have). I hate the idea of getting rid of the M6 and realising the loss, but I hate more not using it. I have a £500 runabout, which in the last 6 months has covered as many miles as the M6! I don’t want to spend more than the M6 is worth on other car/s as I simply don’t use a car often enough to justify it
So;
1. Just get on and use the M6 and put what will be a likely £5-6k dealer margin on a C63 I might buy towards any repairs - which let's face it will be small and nowhere near the realisation of the £5-6K dealer margin
2. Go C63 and Caterham route
Thoughts on best option?

£10 a mile in depreciation! 
Personally, I'd probably sell the M6 if you aren't using it. Yes, you've lost a lot of money on it, but you're only going to lose more and for no real benefit if you're scared to use the car. I'd imagine a pair of cheaper cars would provide more fun more of the time, with less worry about damaging them and probably less depreciation (Caterhams hold their value VERY well).

I really fancy an M6 convertible. I don't know why, it's completely the wrong car for me, plus it'll be a third car and I have no idea when I'll get a chance to drive it.
So far I've managed to resist the temptation. Trouble is I can afford it, which doesn't help my efforts to not buy one. But I know it's a stupid idea.

I had the C63 AMG.....it sounded epic but I got rid of it as I did not like it at all...it felt too 'C class' for me.I only do 8000 miles per year and don't use a car at all Monday to Friday. Then I got the E63 M6 V10. It was older and more crude than the C63 AMG but man...it is a head turner and sound utterly utterly epic at full chat. Like you, I don't drive alot but fortunately I bought an AUC car that was a 2006 model and I got a 2 year warranty thrown in. I paid over the odds but I am happy because the warranty situation offsets it.
To me, there is nothing like a BMW M car. If I was to do it all over again I would get a late run out E92 coupe M3 model with the DCT and EDC options ticket. To me they look better than the C63(which can look bland if you get the wrong colour combo) drive better and the gearbox is more involving. The C63 rides better but it guzzles more fuel than my V10 M6 and just doesn't look great anymore.
To me, this looks much better than an C63 AMG
PS - you don't have to get the frozen matte colour, a red one with all the new shiny bits looks just as good!

I was the same regards the E92 M3 as I got rid of mine because it was too 3 series & didn't sound like a V8 & I thought apart from the LSD it didn't offer anything more than a 330i/335i if used as a daily the interior is the same bar seats & dials & it was lifeless below 6k revs. It just shows how we all see cars differently.
