Roger Morris produces them. Hes been at the Growl the last 4 or 5 years and will be again this year. I've got one too. Very neat addition, lighter and take up signifciantly less space, and sit on the top of a full boot so no getting everything wet in a shower with the original roof.

Good idea but if of a certain height your head catches the locking bar.

+1 thumbup

I have one and use it in preference to the original which only now gets used very occasionally. It was great for the trip to the Le Mans classic in 2012 with a boot full of camping gear and this year the girlfriend will be happier when we do the TVR tour of Spain as she'll be able to get more clothes in the boot rolleyes

I'm six foot tall and never have a problem. I never use the original hard panel anymore. The Surrey Roof is my best purchase for years, and is ideal when touring due to space saved. Fully waterproof and a good fit.

if you have a look at one you will see how well they are made. the folding 'stretchers' that screw together and tension the roof are lovely quality. the whole thing is well designed and folds down so small and neat, its great if you have a boot full of luggage. Well worth the investment in my opinion as we tour during the summer months.

I thought you claimed to have only had your roof on twice in ownership? Anyways you are many things but not my height so my perception remains valid and personally I do hit my head.

3x in fact, and all in torrential rain.
I'm not much shorter so take that as a dig.
Had the roof on in the 500 and when putting the car in the garage. Still no head banging!
Had the roof for 4 or 5 years now and its great.

It's all down to personal proportions. I have shortish legs but the height that I have is in my torso.

As a result I regularly catch my head when sitting in cars that people taller than me don't, indeed I caught my head on the adjustment bars when I sat in Roger's car.

Someone with longer legs but a shorter torso won't sit as high in the car so won't have the same clearance issues. Simples biggrin

I'm 6ft 3, never bang my head on the adjustment bars. I'm long in the legs and torso. My father is 6ft 2 and he doesn't bang his head.

£500 is peanuts for the advantages this offers versus that awful hard panel if you use your car for touring and regularly have a full boot.

A split roof is a neat solution - I built my own, but have you seen the price of those when done, trimmed and fitted properly from someone like S&D.

The home made jobs I have seen have been pretty good, Del's, Baretti etc .. But they still leaked. They are still a pain to get into the boot and do not stow behind the seats if you want them too and are easily damaged in the process. We always managed to get our Surrey roof into the boot on top of 2wks worth of camping gear for 4k miles across Europe.

We, like FFG don't like having the roof on, it's a last resort. Especially when touring, so we want a quick to put on (59 secs is my record from getting out of the car - would you be the same with your surf board?) and quick to take off and put away. I don't want to have to unpack and repack the sodding boot every time.

For those that don't like the look when it's on, the lines aren't right, there's no denying it doesn't have the exact same lines. But its only bearded TVR bores like us that notice, so who really gives a stuff?

But for me nearly everyone looks at it the wrong way. The Surrey roof is not a replacement for the hard panel, it is a convenience, a suitable alternative, a last resort and a bloody good one at that.

It is not a replacement for the hard roof, never claimed to be and shouldn't be assessed in the same way.

Gotta love the forum experts, you got into someone else's car I presume, with their seat position and banged your head on it, so you dismiss it ... rolleyes

How many spangly useless bits of tat get bought on this forum week in week out by owners who then whinge at £500 for this level of convenience. Probably the same owners who do 200 miles a year to go to the same TVR shows parked in a field with the other TVR beards assessing roof lines wink

If you do a search you'll find a picture I posted a few years back of my father going though the morning ritual of unpacking the whole boot of his Chimaera to fit in the roof. Next to it is my Griffith, with the Surrey roof neatly laid on top of the luggage. A picture says a 1000 words hehe

Did he buy one, No, because eye doesn't do the same amount of touring and therefore it's not worth it for him. Does he think it's a super bit of kit, absobloodylutely.

I wasn't dismissing it I was making a suggestion as to why some people bang their heads and some don't, and speaking from experience of this frequently happening to me.

Then you must sitting off centre. I'm sorry, but my head is right at the level of the bars and I have Never banged my head on them. They're not that close to my head.

Rogers earliest version had them towards the doors more and he centralised them a long time ago.

That's why it seems amusing to me these tales of head banging. The back of my head hits the rear section if I'm not careful, that's how big I am and there's a guy on this forum (bomb, is it you?) who is 6ft 7 and has one without issues.

So I am perplexed how anyone bangs their head on these bars, especially with their revised position unless you sit in a very unusual place in the car.

Anyway, think yourselves fking lucky, mines in storage and will be for another 2-3yrs banghead
