It is a missile, just a wet submarine one for bubbleheads. An interview without tea or biscuits for the erk in charge perhaps.

I was once party to a 120mm ND, although happily it went unnoticed outside the turret, but a torpedo is taking things a little too far.

Unusually sensational reporting by the torygraph, it reads more like something from the mail.

It seemed to perform quite well on dry land...

In the 1980s I was involved in the investigation of an F4 Phantom which shot down a Jaguar with a 9G Sidewinder, the Jaguar crashed and the pilot got out eek If it had been the 9L missile things would have been very different.

Probably not actually, given that it was a stern shot and as soon as the 'winder went off the rail the Jag pilot was called to eject.

Had it been a Fox One however (face shot).....

So the air drop version of Stingray is a missile too?

The 9L with the AOTD would probably have exploded alongside the aircraft, therefore a chance that the cockpit would be damaged by the metal rods that cover the warhead.

All we need for a full set is a story about a fast jet squadron checking in to a hotel with only three stars to its name...

We were informed that the pilot felt the impact, so he was still in the cockpit, albeit for a very short time.

Interesting point, I think that the proximity fuse went off all right, under the rear fus.

Yes. A pea fired from a peashooter, a poison dart fired from a tribesman's blowpipe or a blackboard eraser thrown at an unruly pupil is a missile.

Yes but what is an air dropped weapon, an unpowered weapon that is dropped that only becomes powered after it hits the ogsplash?
