Engine wear/Injector Cleaning

Just out of interest, at what kind of milage can we expect to see performance drop due to engine wear in a typical (if there is such a thing) Chim/Griff RV8??

I'm talking about camshafts, tappets, valves etc etc.

Also, is there an easy way to check for cam wear?

I know we all see people on this forum asking about "more power, more power", and "I think my car is losing power", but in my case I really do think it has lost a little.

The car has done around 100k now and it seems to have lost a bit of top end grunt just recently. It's the first time in 2 years I've thought this. Sometimes it just seems to stuggle to reach the higher revs.

She's booked in for a (well overdue) service along with a bunch of other things in Top Cats on Thurs and the last garage that serviced it did a bit of a half arsed job so I reckon that'll sort things out.

But still curious about the engine wear thing.

Also, while I'm hear, what's the deal with getting the injectors cleaned (ultrasonically?). Is my car likely to need it. Is it a nightmare to remove and refit them?

If that's the original cam its done very well to last this long.

Takes about ten minutes to whip the plenum top and trumpet base off, or perhaps an hour the first time if you do it yourself. It seems to be getting more common over the last couple of years to hear about dirty injectors. Don't know whether that's because more people are aware of the problem now, or maybe it's more common because the petrol formulation has changed or something. I think it's something that would be worth doing if you change the cam - along with a Mark Adams setup if the wallet will stretch.

I think it maybe the original, I'll have a look through the recipts next time I'm home.

Like I said, it's booked into TopCats for a fair bit of work, so I'm sure they'll be willing.

The car has had the MA treatment previously, about 3 or 4 years ago when Manek had the motor. Is it something that needs tweaking every now and again as the engine charactoristics change over time?

Oh that's Manek's car is it? Its been a few years since I saw it but I seem to remember it had got various upgrades, wouldn't be at all surprised if the engine had been looked at along the way.

Bought it off him a couple of years back. I can still picture his face watching me drive it away

It has had a fair amount of things done to it, such as brakes, suspension, exhausts, lights (front and rear now), but the only engine upgrade I remember reading about is the Mark Adams chip along with a RR session.
