Long list might suggest difficult to please within a restricted budget.

So, some form of barge, older fast German (e.g. E55), something of a classic, or try and do the two car thing within somewhere approximating the budget.

The s4 is nice but don't want a v8 really and would consider a Megane but the only thing putting me off that it is french

By french do you equate that to unreliable? Because the newer Meganes are anything but. Very few issues with them on the whole. No more expensive, if cheaper to run than the Clio I had, bar brake related consumables.

Its still and a renault and will depreciate fast

It's already done most of it at that age and any car is rarely a sound financial investment, just saying as you did list French cars in your original list.

If you're worried about Renault Méganes depreciating- though I'm not convinced they do much more than other rivals- then what about a good E46 M3 with a Spanish gearbox for £8-10k?

It'll be different to what you've tried before and will give you a different experience. It will have slightly higher running costs but the lack of depreciation will more than make up for that if your cashflow will tolerate it. It'll be in demand when you want to trade it in- which looking at your lengthy car history, seems bloody likely.

I know the meagane is a good drivers car but it french and prefer jap or german cars, the m3 is a option but heard a lot of horror stories on here. What do you mean by spanish gearbox?

It's supposed to be a pun/joke- Manuel, the Spanish waiter from the telly series Fawlty Towers.

I can't really guide you for/against Meganes because I've never driven one. What I am trying to say is that lack of depreciation/age is a trade off- if you want something 2010 vintage it'll depreciate and because you're the sort of bloke who changes his cars very often, that'll hit you a lot. If you look at older but well thought of cars then you'll lose less... but that only works if you want an older car. Problem is, it's very hard to find something newer and get minimal depreciation.

Haha i get you, I have always wanted a m3 but if something goes wrong it can cost a fortune and i only have around 10k to spend, I would have to save up for maintenance money

Tell you what, why not think of your next car in a different way- I know you don't want the same as you've had, but which of the cars on your list did you like, and why? Does that help you choose your next one... or do you want something totally different?

Well i am a big golf fan and I loved all my hondas, the only honda left for me is a s2000 but i am 6ft 5 so its not very comfortable as a daily. Its not about outright speed either I love a good n/a engine as the newer turbos get boring even tho they are fast.
