Have I left it too late ?
Discussion
Missus said last night out of the Blue why don't you go for your 40th (not sure she has realized to £££ tho.)
So , questions are is it feasible to get a campsite on or very near the track for 3/4 people without ending up miles from anywhere and been ripped off.
Getting there is less of an issue as will do tunnel.
Also are we best arriving Thurdsay and leaving Monday.
Any help would welcome

Tunnel will not be a problem but book as soon as you can as spaces on monday will be in short supply by now.
Plenty of quality camping will become available soon as people usually order too many and people drop out, if not just get BJ when you arrive, perfectly good site, get GE's when you get there as well

Also looking at a last minute booking for me and the old man.
However he suffers pretty badly with bad backs.
?
How 'bout taking a camp bed with you? 3kgs max, take up no space. Depending on what his back issues are it could be a revelation. However he suffers pretty badly with bad backs.

Is it too late to expect to get space on a private campsite, that way I won't have to force him to endure the public sites

Is there anyone i've not considered in this list?

I've heard of people turning up on a Thursday or Friday with no tickets at all, going to the ACO office and buying entry and camping tickets on the day. Houx is normally 1/3 empty ever year, the part of it close to the Vauxhall camp end.
I didn't go last year but have been with the Vauxhall mob for 3 years prior to that. The first year it was fairly quiet at that end, the previous 2 it was packed. It may have looked like there was more space because Vauxhall bought a huge pitch, bigger than what they needed which was for their sole use. However they are no longer going, so that's probably an extra few hundred tents in the space that they used to occupy.Dan_1981 said:
Considering this.

The main downside to our experience last year was the crappy band they had playing the same set every night on Thurs / Fri / Sat (doesn't really matter on Sat anyway as you'll be off watching the racing) and Sunday, they were terrible and feedback to the company stated that.
Other than that the site was good, private access by wristband only, decent showers and loos, the food was good, beer was reasonably priced in the bar and they did good value lunch bags.
