Hi all,

does anyone know what the two diodes behind the dash are for. I dont have a picture of one yet but they are on thick brown wires and next to each other. Motorola parts MR756.

I caught on yesterday and it disintegrated and the car will not start. I have got some more on order but curious to what they are for and want to check if it could have fried something else...!

cheers

Installed in a pair is typically for the weird hazard/indicator flasher circuit IIRC.

Hello Spend

sorry they are just next to each othe but on seperate cables not in line with each other...if that makes sense.
unfortunately the car is at work so I cant do any testing...was running sweet as a nut when I parked up and then just wouldnt start.

As usual you have given me something to look at though...cheers.

Spend's correct, the two big diodes are used in the feed control to the flasher/hazard circuit. There's a diagram and explanation in the bible. I discovered the diodes when I was trying to solve a hazard fault:

If the diodes are suspect/US you'll also have a flasher or hazard fault.

Of course I am....

It was my own Chimaera wiring diagram that was plagiarized in your topic rofl

'Pair', didn't imply series or parallel Andy, just 2 close together... There are often single diodes in various locations (under plenum for ignition, inside loom near fusebox for lights...) but only in 'pairs' for the hazards+flasher...

Anyway you've probably blown one of the battery state fuses (permanent live) with your antics which is now preventing starting I'd guess.

Yeah I think your right. I have a load of fuses so I shall have a trip to work in a sec and see if I can get her going again. The megasquirt and ignition are now more or less separate from tvr's wiring. Its just the fuel pump not priming at the moment.
Could be no power to the ecu as well causing the problem need to check with a multimeter.

cheers guys and thanks spend.

I would like to make it absolutely clear that the schematic diagram appearing as part of a contributor's post within the previously linked thread is the sole intellectual property of Spend.

More the point that it is an early Chim wiring diagram, the Bible version is much more appropriate for Griffs (but the note that it was for Chims was removed..). I don't recall seeing a Griff with the twin standard relays (to switch twixt normal indicator & both on for hazards + flasher timer/relay in aux relay panel), every one I've seen has the integrated hazard relay + fiat? flasher relay in that specific housing like the bible.

As Steve said the logic is reasonably similar, but the implementation looks completely different. I do suspect that 'my' documentation is in the minority of cars, and all Griffs + later Chims are more like the bible, so would hate to think that unsuspecting owners take it as the norm and end up with more head scratching than necessary IYSWIM.
