My first grown up car

Was too good an offer to pass up and my man-maths dictated that the best way i could save a little bit of money was to buy another car. 
Its big and slow and lazy, but its the comfiest thing i have ever sat in, does reasonable mph, has cupholders and arm-rests and it doesn't let water in when it rains a bit. Nowhere near as fun as the MX5, but its a totally different car and im loving it so far!
Will keep this thread as a wee record of what goes on during my ownership, first job was to do the full Insp. II service and now its running smooth as silk.

I guess you have not sat in many cars then.
Parents both had a long line of clapped out Peugeots, uncle drives a mustang, lotus and clio 200 and i have personally only ever driven MX5's its great to have something that doesn't break your back!! I guess you have not sat in many cars then.

My first mx5 was bog standard and had power steering, i see where the similarities are there but the latest one was/is lowered non power assisted and a much less refined experience the the BMW. Would say the later MX5 is definately the more fun car of course, but in enjoying the new car.Evangelion said:

Comparing my E36 to the numerous MX5s (mk1 and 2s) I've driven, absolutely not. Both similarly adjustable on the limit but things like steering response are worlds apart. One's a saloon and one's a sports car, don't let anyone try tell you otherwise!Synchromesh said:

Hi, which E36's have you owned?I ask as i'm toying with the idea of an e36 325i. Do you know much about these? Interested in reliability, common issues, fun factor...etc

Just a little 316 
Either a 1.8 or the 1.9, nobody is really sure haha! Wafts nicely between about 60mph and 2 leptons, but it takes its time about getting there really. Insurance and tax are both cheaper than the mx5 though. Will definately be after a 330 when funds allow and insurance is cheap enough if all goes well with this car.

Incidentally, I went from an MR2 (mk2 NA) to the 328i. They're generally reliable cars - there are common issues but I didn't research them that thoroughly as I just took a punt on it at the price I paid. Six months in and its working out well but I'll be changing it soon as I need to scratch a V8 barge itch. It's not fun to hoon to the degree that the MR2 was, but it's a great all-rounder and much better at going sideways!

Nice clean looking e46, one of these was my first grown up car and I replaced it with a 330 so like your thinking!
From the engine pics I'm saying 1.9 due to square oil cap on corner of engine but viewing on phone but not sure? Think it was an 02 plate which would make it a 2.0 though...!? Check the v5.
You do realise 2 leptons is 200mph...?
