my r129 500 sl odo is in kmh

Evening all.
Picked up my 500sl on a 1992 reg today. On the drive home I noticed the odo meter is in kmh!!
Everything else seems normal on the dials.

Any ideas??

As an RHD car it maybe ex Japan? Did you also mention the early history was not present? If so that maybe why- nothing to be concerned about. Pretty sure someone will be able to advise how to get a replacement if you want one.

Odd I assume it's analogue? I would have thought the speedo and odometer would both match? Maybe the previous owner can shed a clue.
If it really is recording in KM yout car will have covered less distance than you thought.

Have you got the aerial down yet?

Its weird because the total distance is in miles.

1st service was done at 22000 miles which is only slightly off as I think its 20000mile interval?

So the trip meter is labeled KM and total distance in miles? Wierd.

So the trip meter will run @ 1.6 times the mileometer.

Right guys.
So both odometers are in km/h. My speedo has mph around outisde and km on inside which seems normal.
Hpi check stated the car is not an import so not sure what the heck is going on. Guessing that means all my service history and there are a few more than first thought are in kmh as looks like thats what the odometer says.

Drive it on a known distance to see what it's actually measuring. Maybe the PO knows something.

It could be that the speedometer has been replaced at some point and the part mistakenly supplied as reading in kms?
