What to look for when buying a GT3 MK1
Discussion
Looking at GT3 MK1 tomorrow and was hoping for a few tips on what to look for.
Car has low mileage but 3 previous keepers! 2007, what extras are desirable.
Priced circa 63k is this fair price?
Is it worth paying extra for MK2 although this would take me a while to save the extra needed.
Have read about bore wear on MK1 should I be concerned.
Car would come with what sounds like a very good independent warranty cost extra of course.

Don't worry about number of previous keepers, GT3's are toys for most, they often get shifted on between owners with little mileage.
All the usual checks apply really, get a PPI down by someone who knows what they looking at the best option!
I had a 997.2 GT3 RS Grey/Red, awesome but to be honest my 997.1 GT3 I'm currently running without Clubsport (shock horror, reminds me I need to pay someone to take it away and set fire to those seats!) is actually 95% the car the 95% the time the RS was, it feels just as fast on the road to me and handles just as well, I'm not Walter Rohl so do not have the ability to notice the weight loss saving the Akrapovic titanium exhaust on my RS made, although I do miss the blue ting on the tail pipes!

Just to add price wise I paid £60k for an 07 White, 17k on clock from an OPC a year ago.
Included service, wheel refurb in my chosen colour, new cup tyres all round, floor mats, new front spoiler and of course two year warranty as approved used. I was happy with that, car is mint. Had just had front discs and pads and rears 75%.
Buy on condition rather than mileage, 2500 miles of Brands Hatch obviously a bit more hard work than 2500 road miles!

Thanks for all the comments, salesman doing his job and applying pressure by saying had several calls on this car and wanting a holding deposit. Not sure how they will react if I say I want a 111 point Porsche inspection
Hell this is more money than any of my past mortgages and I didn't by a house without an independent inspection.
Would have liked carbon seats did they do them in the MK1?
Looking at past sales on JMZ look like these May have gone up slightly.

Why do all my posts keep double posting?
Anyway, don't be bullied by any salesman, like u say its a big amount to spend, don't rush it! If he won't allow a PPI I would walk away, not sure an OPC check would be my choice, would prefer a well known independent, where is car for sale roughly? Nine Excellence or someone of similar standing would be my recommendation, they are just south of London.
Seat wise you have two options, sports seats (manual or adaptive) these fold which is handy to access rear. Second option in the fixed buckets as fitted to the Carrera GT. these do not fold, carbon folding buckets were only an option on the 997.2 models as standard.

Strasse are based in Leeds so not too far away, not dealt with them myself but they are a long established well known independent who have dealt with a lot of GT3's. I would phone them and ask about a PPI.
I love my adaptive sports seats, had them in my 997.2 Carrera S, then had carbon buckets in my 997.2 GT3RS. Now have adaptive sports again in my 997.1 GT3 as I specifically did not want the fixed back Carrera GT buckets (although they do look damm good) as I use my car primarily on the road and for weekends away so access to the rear is very helpful and not full of cage like my RS.
Lots of people may tell you that's too much for a car without Clubsport package and you will struggle to sell it on. I would say sit in both seats and decide what you want to use the car for, 100% track use them yes go for Clubsport package, if not I would recommend a non Clubsport car.
When you say low mileage, how low is low if you don't mind me asking? I would be wary of an uber low mileage car that hasn't been used for extended periods as the seals in the engine can have a habit of drying out and cause leaks.
I know you said you didn't have a second opinion on your house when you bought that with a mortgage but you will have paid for a survey to satisfy the mortgage company that the house will stand up for the mortgage period. For the sack of a few hundred pounds you may save yourself a lot of heartache! I know you have been looking for a while but please take your time and make sure it is the right car for you and in good condition, you don't want your dream car to turn into a nightmare!

Rash m thanks for the offer only just got home and seen it 380 mile round trip!
Exigepete also thanks for your reply having sat in the seats quite happy with them.
Mileage is 11k and car is really clean only thing is not really a comprehensive history and I have also found a thread on Porkers from a guy in January who looked at it and thought the same. You know when you get a feeling!
Agreed to Porsche 111 point inspection if I wanted but like you say maybe I will speak to Strasse tomorrow.
Minor point my post was to read that I wouldn't buy a house without a independent inspection.
Have tried the clutch pedal if was twice as hard to push down as any other car in the show room. I know it has the extra power to deal with but in this normal would certainly give you the leg shake if stuck in traffic. I have read about other models becoming stiff when they need replacing.
Thanks both for your replies and offers of help

Agree with clutch comment, both of mine have had heavy clutches compared to normal cars and indeed other Porsches, not the best for traffic driving.
Sorry read that slightly wrong about the house comment! They are expensive to get into, because they are so good! However running costs compared to other cars like Ferrari 360 CS and 430 Scud are far lower in my opinion.
Lack of history may not be a problem and PPI will/should highlight any issues. However when you come to sell the car, people will be asking exactly the same thing as you, and the guy you mentioned before. Porsche buyers seem less sensitive with history than Ferrari owners, depends how long you looking to keep car and how much history is missing.
