R52 Cooper S, mirrors, trim and tyres
Discussion
I've just bought a Cooper S convertible, 54 plate with 47k on the clock.
I was looking for a convertible, and decided to get a 2+2 so we can take the grandson out. This is my first BMW mini. Took it for a test drive, loved it, bought it.
Just ironing out a few snags:
Offside door mirror heater not working. Adjusts OK, and nearside mirror working fine.
Can I easily check that a non-heated replacement hasn't been fitted, or it there's a fault?
Car appears to be on non-runflats, but has no spare and no compressor/fluid kit.
Do I buy an emergency kit, fit runflats, or keep my fingers crossed?
My E61 came with runflats, which I hated. Fitted normal tyres, and bought a spacesaver spare kit. Not an option on the R52, unless I'm missing something.
Any links to guides on removing the interior trim? Some of the body colour and silver trim could do with a respray, and there are a couple of rattles/squeaks that I'd like to fix.

Check wing mirror switch pos for heating. Just get a foot pump and recovery. You can try the cans of seal inflater as well. (had one cn but never used). Most dont like the ride with run flats, so would say don't change. Go on line and get a haines manual on there sit or ebay etc. (not quire right but I hope you know what I mean)
As DanGT says - keep the non RFT's and buy an emergency kit.
BMW's was around £100 for my old 130 but someone like Peugeot(?) does a similar kit for much less I think.
The only thing to check is that some recovery firms wouldn't help if you had done away with the spare or changed from RFT's and the foam didn't work
The Haynes manual isn't bad for info on trim removal - they described the door trim ok when I changed my door check on Saturday.
I have read somewhere about a trick to get the mirror off without getting 7 years bad luck - PH, Minitorque or Mini2 would have been the source.

For the non-runflats just buy some tyreweld stuff from Halfords for a few quid and keep in the boot. Do I buy an emergency kit, fit runflats, or keep my fingers crossed?

Try http://www.mini2.com/forum/ or http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/ for information on taking the trim apart.
I'm about to buy a second hand 16 inch wheel off ebay, and when I change both my front tyres in a couple of weeks, get them to fit the one with most tread (ie just legal) to it.
Our car (a 2002 cooper) currently has 2 just legal Runflats at the front, and 2 almost new none-runflats at the back. And I'm debating the runflat vs non run flat options, but I'd quite like 4 run flats, so I'll probably put the backs onto the front, and hope they wear out quickly.
The boot did not have any tyre weld or tools apart from the one single locking wheel nut socket, when we got it, but I got a full BMW/MINI kit off a mini forum for £20, and added 2 cans of holts tyre weld from Costco.
The spare will sit in the shed, because it will fill the boot, and will be used only if we've had to be recovered with "massive" failure.
