St220 sump gasket
Discussion
I know this is an old thread but thought i would reply anyway.
Yes it is pretty much straightforward after you get the front exhaust section off. Take bolts off and clean everything up.
There are 2 gaskets depending which year model you have. They are metal gaskets. Put everything back and then tighten up the bolts to the correct torque in the right sequence,

Cut a long story short had to go to my mechanic that does stuff I can't, basically because my compressor would not start & down pipe bolts were stuck solid but he only charged me £50 so not all bad.
Gaskets there are 2, do not buy from Ford far too expensive, there is one that is part metal which the sump bolts fit through, the other is just like a piece of black liquorice very thin & fits in a groove in the sump & then seals directly onto the block.
Best thing to do if anyone needs it doing is take the sump off first & inspect the gasket to work out which one you have if it's the thin one & it's intact you can get away with cleaning it & replacing adding a bit if silicone sealant as my mechanic informed me.
Cheers

Yes same problem bolts on mine where the front downpipe joins centre section, i did actually have everything else undone ready to come off & would of be possible if compressor was working.
I had one of the thin gaskets in my hand 2 days prior to going in but myself & guy who sources my parts for me both looked at it & just thought it was wrong so went with the other which was obviously wrong, so my mechanic used the old one with silicone and seems to be ok.
Not 100% certain but i do think the gasket with the metal frame around it is for the 2.5 but seems to have worked its way into the 3.0 listing also?
Cheers
