First Bits Back From The Powder Coaters

Hi All
Just got the first bits back today,Done a trial fit and back in the bubble wrap, still working out little things like oil returns and water feeds, just keep trying ideas but nothing looks right.

Plenty of bolts to keep it solid 22 M10


As I was not using the TVR mount I cut it out and recessed the body so it would fit level with the back of the seat



Fits into the back where the inertia reel assy went, not needed with the 6 harnesses.




Still lots of little jobs to do, you know the ones that do your head in just thinking about them.
When you lads fit your rool bars, have you cut the carpet or bolted it on top.

Never fitted a roll bar but I'd have thought bolt down solid and carpet around?


Tell a lie, put one in my Elan, that was a few years ago!

Nice looking roll bar.
I've never seen them fitted any other way than bolted down then carpeted afterwards.

Yes deff rollbar bolted down then carpetted around, I had this in my MGB, looks tidier than the bolts showing.

definitely bolt down solid then try to fit carpet,
I will be cutting the excess off later.

Although difficult to see this is the area of the chassis below the original inertia reel mount, exactly where the main hoop bolts. You can see the rearmost bolt head, the other 2 are above the chassis tube - a right bugga to fit.

Hi Mick.
Like the idea of studs to locate the bar on, might use this idea with dome nuts to screw the studs fully in, I have tapped the plates M10, to use nuts and bolts I would have to re drill all the holes out.

On bolting down you're roll bar you really should bolt down steel to steel as the racing guys do !! You are bolting through fiberglass and in some cases rubber these are flexible and will let the bolts slacken off overtime and in the case of having to use it one large impact the bolts will be loose so not give you full protection. If you at leased drill oversized holes and fit thick wall spacers the same length as rubber plus fiberglass the bolts will be able to be fully tightened so staying tight , it looks good though. They are not studs - they are bolts but because I could not access the boltheads easily I cut a slot to hold with a screwdriver while tightening with a spanner. My cage does bolt to steel plates welded to the chassis.

Very interesting. So cage is bolted down directly to the chassis and the gatter seals the gap so the body is still rubber mounted. Good idea.

That's what it's designed for, David. Did it do it's job ok?

Edit: Just wondering, in Australia, do they fit roll cages underneath?

I just rolled it on the roof to take a picture of it in the useful position. No animals were harmed.
