I'm looking at purchasing a 5dr 2010-2011 Audi S4 which is the B8 model in Audi Editions speak for circa £22,000. However slightly worried at purchasing at the wrong time and losing a pile of ca$h because of the new B9 that is on the horizon. Already worried at what two years does on depreciation.

2008 - 50k miles are @ £14-£16k
2010 - 45K miles are @ £20-£23k

Probably should just pay the money, enjoy the car and think about residuals in 2-3 years ... procrastinator

I'm no Audi expert, but I can't see the new model making an awful lot of difference to an older B8 model - someone who is looking to spend £20k is not the same person who looks to spend £50k on a new one.

I have told I have to wait until June for my new S4 as it will now be the new model.

I'm a bit cheesed off to be honest, as I specked it up based on the old brochure and if they have removed any of the features that were standard, I may have to walk away and start again.

If you spend circa £20k on a car your going to loose money fact.

The only way to spend £20k and not wave goodbye to half of it is to buy a classic instead. Modern cars are always replaced by the next must have.

Can't see them bringing out a new A4 by June, as the current one one only face lifted in 2012?

What £ value are you happy to accept in losing in depreciation a year?

Used cars over 3 years old tend to lose at least 20% of their market value each year so buy a £20k car expect to lose at least £4k year one then £3.2k year two then by the end of year three it will be worth under £10k.

Of course it might lose less - but I'd doubt more unless there is a problem with your car. Plan for the worst /expected and if its not as bad that's a nice problem to have but plan for the best then you only have a problem to face.
