M6 or 997 Targa?

Considering spending 20-25k on either an M6 (head) or a 997 Targa 4 or 4S (heart). Probably not for a couple of years yet but starting to research now as I need to make the right decision! This will be a one off purchase and will have to last me. I want the car for general everyday use, plus a bit of fun. Need space for wife (possibly), and twin boys (probably). Head or heart?... opinions please folks. I know the rear seats in a 911 are virtually pointless and the "boot" is tiny but it can't be all positives can it....? The 911 will age better than the BMW.
How old are your boys going to be in 2 years? And how long will their legs be?! I have a 997 T4S, and you can really think of it as a 3-seater assuming, you yourself like to have your seat right back. Mine is PDK, and I have on occasion got two 17 year olds in the back with another as a passenger and me driving with my seat pulled forward - safe enough to operate throttle and brake but would never have been able to operate a clutch... I'm talking about 10 mile journeys only!
I have two boys, 17 and 14, and they fit in fine - 17 year old in the front with the seat slightly forward (still a safe distance from the airbag) and 14 year old in the back behind his brother. The 17 year old will reluctantly swap with his brother. The only thing that concerns me about this configuration is that there are no head-restraints on the rear seats. Also, with the Targa roof closed, there is a little more headroom than the coupe. However, with the roof open, there's very little headroom in the back!
I never had a 6-series but did have an E92 335i. It was a fabulous car, of course the rear seats are much better, but it just wasn't as special as the 911.
I'm near Guildford if you wanted to take a look and try the boys for size!
