Going back to working for someone else?

I have been my own boss for nearly ten years and things haven't gone as well as I'd wished for.

Things are just ticking over and so to increase my salary I have accepted a job with a large company and will close my business.

I have yet to sign the contract and I am beginning to have second thoughts about the freedom I currently enjoy.

Has anyone been in a similar situation, and how did it work out, any regrets?

I would think it depends highly on the role and both by whom and how your managed, if your working mostly under your own steam without someone looking over your shoulder youd be fine, but if you have a bad manager on your back all the time I'd expect you to last about 5 minutes before walking out...

Very presumptuous, I know, but I don't suppose those two things are linked?

Personally doubt I could do it but I suppose it greatly depends what you do?

I worked for myself for a few years and ended up going back to employment. I definitely miss the freedom and being able to work as I saw fit and when.

I do not miss not knowing how much money I would earn in a month; wanting to get married, buy a house and have kids meant a return to a "secure" and regular income was welcomed.

I do not particularly enjoy what I do at the moment, but the money is ok and I now have: a wife, house, child and another on the way - we also run 2 x V8's so it's not all bad :-)

There will be a period of adjustment but it is swings and roundabouts like most things.

I worked as an IT contractor for a few years so technically worked for myself, but work dried up and I had to give up a get a permie job. 10 years later i am well weary of being an employee working as a wage slave and not being able to make a difference to the company i work for, also having cavemen for 'colleagues' is not helping. Hence i'm researching a new business opportunity in a completely different industry so i can be my own boss again.

I could never go back, but then probably nobody would employ me, so it's not an option.

Similar situation for me but i only run one v8 and dont have any kids yet!
Got fed up of waiting for people to pay me and a lack of work made me go back into employment, do miss it but its nice to have no money worries at the end of each month.
