Digital camera for my mum

I know this may be akin to asking a michelin starred chef to choose between Mcdonalds and Burger king, but thought i'd try anyway

I want to get my mum a point and shoot style digital camera - she is a complete technophobe so the simpler it is the better. I had a look in some high street stores but all the models I found were tiny with fiddly buttons and I know she would use it once then put it away never to be seen again.

Can anyone reccomend anything? The more similar it is to a 35mm compact circa 1995, the better.
She would mainly use it outdoors.

Without wanting to be too patronising, I am guessing she wants to use it an auto mode all the time ?

Fuji X10/X20/X100s is very well reviewed and has the retro look down perfectly.

However, my general experience is that Canon compacts have the best auto software, and generally do a very good job of picking correct white balance and exposure etc.

Fuji X20 is a very good shout, I'd second that recommendation assuming it's in budget.

For general snapshot use, I would suggest any of the small Canons or Panasonics; they seem to win most of the comparison tests.

A bit lower budget, Fuji xf1, on offer at £129, bit smaller but still retro look
