HELP...! Engine advice needed
Discussion
Have a 96 Griff 500 and just found out after blown head gaskets that the block is F*$!*D apparently the crank is ok but 2 of the liners have moved.
Now I don't know much about engines but can this be repaired or would it be a safer bet to source a new short engine with warranty etc and what sort of money are we talking about....?
Looking at a budget of around 4k.
Thanks in advance.

I would push it to TVR Power in the first instance and let them strip it. If they say the block can be repaired, it can be repaired. If it can't then think about a John Eales short motor.
If it can be repaired, you should be able to get a complete Taraka upgrade including the reapirs for under your budget.

firstly it won't be head gaskets they are bullit proof on these engines!! you will certainly have a leaky liner, 695 + vat will get your block top hat lined and never have the problem again, however the budget you are looking to spend could buy you a 5.3 ltr short motor including fitting?? i dont know if your seeking more power at the same time?
Hi Rob,
Thanks for that advice. Not really too worried about the increase in power just want to get him back on the road without emptying the bank account.
I take it its a fairly easy procedure to top hat the liners then would probably need the heads skimmed though, do you think!?
Could you email me with an idea of cost with regards to a rebuild etc and re-fit.
Many thanks.
