Arrrgh this whole debate is retarded... I live in Leighton Buzzard, but work / socialise / drink / shop in Milton Keynes - so I'm probably there more than I'm at home.

The grid roads are NSL dual carriageways, with a few NSL singles on less heavily used routes.

Once you turn off, or enter a residential or business district, your in a 30 or 40 limit.

It works brilliantly, it was designed that way...

So why the HELL do they want to cut the limits?

Because some drunk idiot staggers out onto a dual carriageway instead of using an underpass? Or a kid with no common sense and the same amount of parental care and education does the same?

They have. I've just voted ("no", of course) and the next page told me "50% Yes, 50% No"... with a link to a "Results" page which showed "49% Yes, 50% No" (huh?)

(IME not that many people exceed 60mph on the duals anyway...)

Astonishing that nearly 50% say yes. There's no earthly reason for it. If I remember right the last big campaign featured a local granny demanding lower speed limits and more cameras after a drunk joy rider went off the road at some stupid speed. Yeah, that'll help.

As an interesting follow up to this in their poll archive:

"Should the V7 in Milton Keynes have a 30mph limit applied to it"

Results:

80% No, it's a wide road with no houses built along it, 60mph is the right speed for this road.

19% Yes. all the single carriageways in Milton Keynes should be 30mph. Speed Kills.
