Think I need help! I worked hard to lose a lot of weight and got toned etc. in Jan I damaged my arm lifting weights which I'm now having sport massage to try and get it sorted. Around the same time, I have quit smoking again and I can't control my love for chocolate!

As I can only jog at the moment, combined with snacking , the blasted weight is piling up, ie, 14 pounds since I stopped smoking!

Still, despite the extra weight, this is still healthier than smoking, and can easily lose it again...but seriously, it's damned hard controlling the diet at the moment!

Sugar works the same way as cigarettes - the main thing each hit does it make you want the next one. Don't eat the first one.

I doubt that's the only thing you can do, but if it really is, jog more and snack less.

See this is where you're going wrong - giving yourself an out, a get out of jail free card. On the one hand you say you can "easily" lose it, but on the other "it's damned hard controlling the diet". You did exactly the same thing with the reasons for putting the weight on in the first place.

Weight loss, or more importantly, maintaining a good body composition is all about attitude. You don't have to have to live like a monk, just know where to draw the line.

You've just got to grasp 2 things really:-

1. Understand it really isn't difficult at all - I'm not just saying that, it's genuinely true.
2. Most importantly, stop making excuses for your behaviour.

Nail those 2 things and you will have it nailed thumbup

Thanks all.

It is so easy to say stop snacking, exercise more. But after quitting smoking, where I smoked for 20+ years, it has been difficult. Also, where I was having to eat circa 3000 calories per day, simply to maintain my weight before I injured my elbow, I'm also finding it hard having to reduce my intake.

I accept it's a matter of will power. I have been good in the past couple of days, just need to persevere with the good diet, at least until my elbow is healed and I begin lifting the hts in earnest again.

Well, don't quit snacking - snack less. If you eat 5 packets of crisps a day, eat 1.

That's how it starts...just the one...and so it escalates!

Then you need to figure out how to manage your cravings.

Do you drink enough fluids (water, green teas etc not coffea, English tea)?

Do yourself a favour tomorrow - get up, go to work and don't eat a thing until you get home in the evening. When you get home, remember that feeling in your stomach. That'll be proper hunger.

Thereafter, whenever you go for a snack, ask yourself two questions:-

1. Am I hungry like I was last night?
2. What do I want more, this snack or to be a fat knacker?

Reinforce this behaviour by getting up in the morning and standing infront of a full length mirror stark bk naked. Look at yourself full frontal and in profile and ask yourself, am I proud of how I look? If the answer's yes, allow yourself a couple of snacks during the day. If the answer's no, don't.

Repeat this until you are where you want to be.

Some harsh folks here…but just what I needed to hear!

I do look at myself start naked in a full-length mirror, and I think how fortunate I am…;)

I promise you, the excess weight is going. It has to as I cannot afford to buy bigger clothes. I still fit into my 32" waist and I'm going to stay in them!

I hated weight training, but I seriously miss the benefits of the workouts. Muscle definition has virtually disappeared since January! Got to concentrate on healing the elbow, continue with the brisk walking and jogging, and cut out the chocolate and crisps!

As Hoofy alludes to, I do need to drink more "clean" fluid and less coffee/tea.

Cheers all.

Good idea, but I cannot miss meals because I would suffer from migraines if I did.
