Hi guys... Some of you may have seen my other thread in SP&L asking for insurance advice after my Chimaera was damaged in the office car park by a run-away van. frown

As you can see, there's some paint damage, but more seriously the fibreglass cross-member onto which the front of the bonnet is attached is fractured through and that side of the bonnet has pushed back a few mill.

Str8Six are coming to collect it on Friday (19/03/14) and Jason will quote for the repair. My company will either reimburse me out of their own purse or they will make an insurance claim.

Clearly I will need a front-end re-spray of at least the nose area, which will mean getting rid of the myriad of stone chips (some big, and thousands of minute ones) - so I will end up in a better position hopefully.

My question now is this: Should I consider getting a film covering over the nose to prevent stone chips coming back?

If I do, where would I terminate the film, and how noticeable will it be? Could I terminate it somewhere on the curved part of the tip of the bonnet so it wouldn't be as obvious (e.g. along the reflection of the horizon in the above picture, or perhaps slightly higher) - I'd still get some stone chips though?

Should I do this, and can anyone recommend someone?

Should I get the whole bonnet re-sprayed (at extra cost to me) and get the whole bonnet coated?

Anyone used Armourfend?

The sprayers may be able to blend in any repair but a word in their shell-like that it's an insurance claim may yield a complete front end respray.

"It's what is needed, sir...." wink

Personally I wouldn't do it. After all, it won't rust but each to their own. Unless you can get it 'thrown in' as a freebie so to speak.

Hi, I asked this a little while back and the jury is still out, about half thought armourfend was a good idea and the others thought that save your money and have a front end re-spray every 4-5 years.
I have just had a re-spray, and have looked as to where the start/finish point on the bonnet and around the headlight area would be without it being highly visable.
Good luck with the repair and glad nobody got hurt.
