So birthday is fast approaching. Time to spoil myself. I want a new hi-fi for the living room. Have a Bose system in the car, love the quality. The Bose Wave is the front runner as listed here
http://m.bose.co.uk/GB/en/home-and-personal-audio/...

Anyone have this or heard it. Cant Get to a dealer to hear it, and at £999 a significant investment

Only heard one in their shop. It sounds very good considering the size but not the best considering the huge cost !

£999 is not a huge cost for a decent hi-fi in fact it's very modest

The rule of thumb with Bose is it's fairly decent but you can get much better for your money.

ask about sreaming service support and NAS support - if you use any of these - cos they are very limited at the moment which is one of the major reasons I went Sonos.

Bose stuff tends to be pretty good but there are many manufacturers of high end audio getting in on the act now that may sound better

My mini Hi-Fi cost £79 and is comparable to the Bose, my real Hi-Fi cost over £10K and is substantially better wink

I wouldn't like to advise on what, but in my opinion, for a thousand pounds you can get much more hifi than BOSE. They sound pretty good at low volumes, but sound strained at higher levels in my experience.

Bose is perfectly fine for 99% of the population.

They sound perfectly acceptable. I have a few Bose systems around the house.

You can get better for your money though.
I have the Bose systems for small size and convenience for other family members to use.

My hifi - that is a different matter.

I did wonder why they never advertised the price in their adverts and now I know!! £1k is a lot of money for such a wee box!

Do not waste your money on Bose products, go to a decent hi fi retailer with your £1000 and give them your requirements you'll probably only need to spend £500 to get the same quality. If not less

I'd rather spend my money there than at Bose. Is there a Superfi near you? they tend to be pretty clued up and have decent stock.

Some of the Bose products are quite good, especially the little ipod docks.

A friend of mine bought a Bose Accouistimass (SP?) HT speaker system, and TBH it ran out of puff fairly easily.

However, £18K on my HIFI.

Mad?

Yep!

Have a look at B&W's all in one kit. Substantially less money and much better sound IMO.

And if you don't need the latest i-phone connector you can pick up a refurb'd bargain at the moment. I picked up a Zep with airplay for £300, which I use as sound bar for a small TV, and it really is a stunning bit of kit. It looks nice too, unlike the bose which reminds me of an aircon unit.

And if you want to spend more their A range is superb, although they're closer to the portable aircon unit aesthetic.

What hifi you got?

I was saving up for a full Linn system but went and listened to the little Kiko system they make I was blown away so just got that and saved some money, it does everything I need and the sound is simply stunning for such a little thing.

I get the impression Bose stuff is ok but is kind of what people who dont know about HiFi buy thinking they are getting the best they can buy, sort of where Apple, marks and Spencers and Audi fit market wise, not the absolute best, but good enough for most.

We have a Bose Ipod Dock, its ok and my car hsa a Bose system, er, it is better than a lot of car systems but is no way what I would call Hi Fi, bit louder than average and has a bit of weight behind it but little else.

All far better than Bose, but personally, I would get something which is a digital steaming device, it really is the way forward, Ive taken the plunge and gone all digital streaming and it is very good (as ing as you get a decent one that is) Ive got 3TB network drive which will more than hold all my music which can be ripped from CD in FLAC or ALAC file formats (totally lossless) and you can now get 24bit studio masters whhc played through the right equipment sound amazing.

Up the budget a couple of hundred quid and get something like this
