Taking our 1st employee on next week in the form of a young apprentice.

The college are coming in to see us and i guess will want to know he is safe in the event of an injury etc.

what do we need to take out in terms of insurance, is it employee liability and personal indemnity? Where best to get them from?

Make an appointment to go an see a competent insurance broker - if they are any good they will advise and obtain quotes on any cover you need and should be able to give you some H&S advice too. If you are a small company you probably don't need formal risk assessments but its an exercise worth doing - there are plenty or resources to help you with this. Remember you owe a greater duty of care to young people.

It would normally be covered as part of an employers liability policy but not sure what your current status. It maybe worth doing an induction so you highlight the hazards etc on site. PM me if you want some help
