According to a very helpful chap at Roger Clark, the brake discs on my Impreza have "glazed" - and one of them is quite scored.

He thinks that the car was probably stood up for quite a while after having new discs and pads fitted, allowing them to corrode quite badly.

I've had a quote for a set of discs and pads from them, but in the mean-time I'm wondering if it's worth getting them skimmed? Would that include the pads?

Can anyone advise somewhere in the Rugby area to get this done? I've never had it done before.

I think the Porsche place on the A45 in Coventry do it, although I'm not sure if they do all marques.

If you don't mind traveling a bit further then Supercar Rooms will do them for you, make sure if you do get them done they are skimmed whilst fitted to the car rather than removed and on a lathe.

That surprises me, I would've expected a better job from a service that removes them and does it "properly".

It only recommends a couple of main dealers for me, who I wouldn't expect to be very interested in my car.

The Subaru garage just outside Solihull skimmed my discs this summer for £80 or so.

I was told the machine that bolts to the hub will give a true cut of the disc accounting for any run out in the hub itself, meaning when it is cut on the car the machine will cut the disc taking the run out into account in essence matching the disc to the hub, where as a bench lathe can't take that into account, so whilst the skim can be as accurate in terms of tolerance, any run out in the hub or contaminants between the disc/hub or disc/lathe can lead to issues,

Now whilst I don't profess to be an expert on the subject, it seemed to make sense when explained to me whilst having a set done whilst my car was in for service,
