I am dense, please enlighten me - wiper blades

Got a feeling I am missing something blindingly obbvious here, but anyway -

Recently acquired Toyota blades have white square (about 1cm x 1cm) stickers on them, which can be peeled off to reveal a dark translucent sticker underneath.

Boxes the blades came in have a picture of a black square and a white square, with a warning triangle against the white one, so presumably I am supposed to remove the white top sticker to reveal the underneath sticker.

But what are they for?

Sunlight sensor? After x days/weeks/months of exposure to sunlight does a yellow warning triangle appear in the blank sticker to tell you to change the blades.

I had these on some Valeo blades - the yellow triangle appeared after a month so I ignored it for a year. Apparently I'm now dead.

Mazda ones have a small triangle which goes yellow when they've been exposed to too much UV (Sunlight), indicating time for replacement, or so I've been told.

I replace them after the car has a service, once a year with Halfrauds items which are pretty decent & last well for the amount of mileage I cover in a year (about 6k). That said, the rear has been on there 3 years now and still is fine.

F'k'n' hell. Yet another money-making scam to persuade people to dispose of consumables prematurely. Just like printer cartridges with electronics in then that commit suicide after a fixed length of time/use even though there's still loads of ink/toner still in them.

If they're still efficiently wiping the water off the windscreen then that'll be getting a stiff ignoring!

I'll raise you Brita Water filters. the 'your filter's knackered' graphic gets worse with time as opposed to use (went away on hols and it had apparently lost half it's capacity to filter water adequately...)

Ditto - just peel it off. Valeo lasted about a year on our vehicles.
