What sort of arse leaves their band in the brown stuff?

Pointless venting really but...
Put together a covers band, playing classic rock stuff. Found a drummer via joinmyband, he brought along two lead guitarists, I play rhythm. Auditioned a couple of bassists, then the third bassist said he wanted to be in, just before Christmas. Since then he missed two rehearsals, once because a family birthday snuck up on him, then last week cancelled us 2 hours before rehearsal as he had been offered some paid work. Bear in mind first gig is a week on Saturday.
Rehearsal again tonight and we were concerned as his facebook timeline said he was going to a gig tonight. He didn't respond to texts or phone calls to both landline and mobile attempting to check, and didn't even open facebook messages from the rest of us. He's been posing so clearly ignored the messages.
So now we have 10 days to find a bassist to stand in and learn a 1 hour set. Failing that the Deep switch on my JCM2000 will come in handy to fill out the sound. But if you don't want to be in a band surely you should have the decency to let the others know rather than just ignoring it?

I session all the time both as a bassist and drummer, have done for years, I have dropped in on live gigs with a days notice, if you don't get fixed up, then subject to distance and my availability, all I need is a set list emailing of the covers you're doing, a venue name, post code, and time I need to be there, a fuel bung and if there's anything in it great.

I'm currently rehearsing a band, covers outfit for pubs & pin money. In it for the fun more than anything. Reading this thread makes me realise I'm the only member not to have missed a rehearsal in six months. We have our first paid gig coming up in six weeks & we're a few songs short of a set.
Our drummer binned it off two weeks ago with flu & prior to that we agreed to learn Born to be wild & There she goes for the next rehearsal. Neither are particularly difficult songs & with the drummer ill, we had two weeks to learn them. So rehearsal comes around again on Monday & the bass player hasn't picked up either song.
On the one hand it's a mickey mouse covers band & so I don't want to go off the deep end but on the other we have obligations to each other & more importantly, to the people we're charging to hear us play. I find it incredibly frustrating that one guy doesn't bother. As others say, it's bands & just how it is but nonetheless I find the attitude hard to fathom out.

Can't help the OP as I'm not a bassist but I can completely agree that band members are a pain. I'm down to two full time bands and even that's a hassle. The problem I find with more contemporary bands is that people seem to think being a dick is ok because it's rock and roll and informal etc. I miss playing in more formal outfits where you were made to look like an idiot if you came in not knowing parts and if you missed more than a certain amount of rehearsals you were hoofed out.
