Google.com diverting to Google.be?

Curiouser and curiouser.

.co.uk seems to be fine, but google.com is diverting to google.be!

Does anyone have any idea if my IE having a fit or is this happening to other people?

Strange. Similar thing happened to me last week, but in my case it was Firefox as the browser, and google.com was diverting to google.se

At least it's not diverting to the Klingon version.

I think Google have put code on google.com to redirect to the site local to your IP address. For example, I just tried it when logged on to a German proxy server and was redirected to google.de.

Don't think so, or at least, it's not active all the time. I always connect to google.com, regardless of where I am. The redirect to .se happened while I was using the wifi on a train last week, and only happened after a couple of hours.

We had this at work a few months back. We had a new block of IP addresses formerly owned by a Belgian company, I think. It sorted itself out after a while.

Interesting! I've just signed up with a new ISP and am getting redirected to google.de when I hit google.com

I don't think it's my IP address though - it's my DNS server giving the wrong result back to me.

Maybe it's the IP of my nameserver that's causing this.

in any case, it's bloody annoying.

Try doing an nslookup of your IP address and see if it comes back with what you expect.

I'm not sure what the nslookup on my IP will show me. Surely it's the IP address of my DNS server that is the probable reason for this?

After all, it's not me that queries the google nameservers, it's my ISPs nameserver that does it for me - and gets back the wrong result.

SO possibly the IP Address of my nameserver is german, hence the problem?

Never noticed these. It appears they also have "pig latin", "Elmer Fudd", "Bork Bork Bork" and "Hacker". :P

Sorry. Been working late all week and I'm clearly not thinking straight. I normally double-check this sort of thing before posting.

Here's an extract from whois for my IP address:

inetnum: 81.86.128.0 - 81.86.191.255

Of course I only have one IP address in that block, but you can see which country I'm in - or at least, where the whois database thinks I am.
