I treat chinese food much the same as I do fish and chips, no matter how strongly they appeal, always remember how they make you feel!
haha - it's funny you should say that. Along with those, and pizza, I feel the same.I think "ooo, I really fancy the idea of fish&chips/pizza/chinese, I'll treat myself!". 3 hours later I feel bloated, not particularly well, didn't really enjoy the meal massively, and am £20 worse off for it.
Each time I consider a take away now, I remind myself of this fact!
I ended up reading this book after being plagued with headaches for years:

This rattles on about dietary triggers such as:
¡Caffeine - Coffee, tea, iced tea and cola. Even decaf coffee and tea may be a problem. Try caffeine-free tea without citrus and other trigger flavors.
¡Chocolate - White chocolate (no cocoa) is okay; carob is questionable.
¡Processed meats and fish - Aged, canned, cured, fermented, marinated, smoked, tenderized - or preserved with nitrites or nitrates.
¡Cheese and other dairy products - The more aged, the worse. Permissible cheeses include cottage cheese, ricotta, cream cheese and good-quality American cheese.
¡Nuts - Avoid all kinds, as well as nut butters. Seeds are okay.
¡Vinegar - Clear or distilled vinegar is allowable. Don't overdo condiments made with vinegar such as mustard.
¡Certain fruits and juices - Citrus fruits and their juices as well as bananas and dried fruit preserved with sulfites.
¡Certain vegetables - Avoid onions, sauerkraut, pea pods and certain beans.
¡Aspartame - Nutrasweet and saccharin. Sucralose (Splenda) isn't a problem.
¡Fresh yeast-risen baked goods - Less than one day old: homemade or restaurant baked breads such as sourdough.
Then I saw a picture of the author, and decided it was woowoo!

I haven't changed my diet and my headches are better.

Is this part of growing up? About once every 6 months when my gf is out, I decide to do exactly the same as you, and with exactly the same after effects I think "ooo, I really fancy the idea of fish&chips/pizza/chinese, I'll treat myself!". 3 hours later I feel bloated, not particularly well, didn't really enjoy the meal massively, and am £20 worse off for it.

.Next time, I'm just going to drive to Burger & lobster, spend my £20 there and dispense with the bloated nausea afterwards

Though now single, when I lived with my girlfriend I'd do the same as you - night alone, 'treat' myself. Errr that sounded dodgy. Anyway, I actually find the tesco/waitrose/m&s oven pizzas they do really quite nice, and that is now my being lazy treat

A few years ago I had a chinese take away for Saturday lunch, it was a work thing, we alway had a take away when working on Saturday. I had sweet and sour chicken, you know the chicken in batter thing.
An hour or so later I started to feel not right, my face went numb, I couldn't feel my lips and a short time later I collapsed.
I woke up in hospital with a lot of wires attached to me, machines bleeping and a nurse stood over me, a very scary experience. I still couldn't feel my lips which made talking difficult! They thought I'd had a heart attack but the monitor didn't back this up.
The doctors couldn't work out what was wrong, apparently my heart rate was all over the place and my breathing was likewise.
I can't remember how long it took but after a lot of doctors had looked at me a nurse came and said I think it's MSG poisoning. She made me sick and within minutes I started to feel better.
I do like chinese take aways but I haven't had sweet and sour again!
