Sort the scratches out before p/ex or not ?

So I want to change my car over in the next few weeks , but its not in a perfect state. There's a couple of deep scratches on the rear bumper and a small chip on the rear arch . Is it better to have them sorted before I see what price I could get on a part exchange or see the price with the car as it is ?

Also we buy any car.com is offering a better price it seems than part ex . Anyone had any dealings with them good idea or not ? I know private selling would be better but for a few hundred notes it seems less hassle to part ex. Any thoughts would be very welcome thanks a lot.

By the way Im changing from a Fiesta ST (07) to a Beemer Z4 (57) if that makes any difference.

If it'll cost, say, £100 to get it fixed, but earn you, say, £500 extra, then get it fixed. If in doubt, ask.

WBAC will give you a price, then start knocking off crazy amounts for minor scratches, so if that's the way you want to go, then get it done.

It also depends what sort of dealership you're going to flog it to. Some Fred-in-a-shed who knock out old bangers for £500 isn't going to care. A Ford or BMW main dealer will.

You're obviously a bloke who likes cars, purely out of interest, why haven't you had these scratches fixed already?

Only happened a few months ago , and a variety of things have kept me from getting it done. Lets just say there's more important things in life than cars but an incident has shown me that your not here forever so hence the change for a Z4 for the summer.

This. If you are buying from an indy it will help as they will have to sell or sell it auction themselves.

A main dealer couldnt give a toss they give you a similar price whatever condition its in, maybe adding/taking off a 100 quid or 2 depending on condition.

They will just shove it on a lorry to auction and forget about it
