To change or not to change

Keep this one simple. I currently own an astra vxr, but the itch for something new has started. Been looking hot hatches again but predominantly the mk5 golf r32.
I recon that my cars worth about 6k and the golf around 10k for a similar milage and age car to mine. From owners of the golf or both which is the more expensive to run (I'm guessing the golf). If it is by how much i get around 27-32mpg from the vxr.
Is it worth the extra £4k to change?

You can expect to avg 27 mpg from R32 as long as most of your mileage is cruising rather than stop start town stuff

I have a Mk5 R32 and my friend has an Astra VXR. They are very similar cars and I think you'd be better off keeping the £4k or putting it towards something a bit different.

Need 4 seats because i lift share to work and its a 55 mile round trip. I want something that will cost around the same to run as my vxr for around 10k. Have previously looked at the evo and impreza sti but i think they would be quite a bit more expensive to run plus low 20's mpg and 6k servicing puts me off a bit..

£6k servicing?! Certainly not on my (non-STi) WRX.

Low 20s mpg, guilty as charged (well, 24 so mid-20s).

If you really want to change and stay with a hot hatch I'd look at a facelift Mazda 3 MPS. 4 door, loaded with toys, another 25hp or so over what you have and the face lift ones are no more expensive on tax.

That said, with a 55 mile commute I'd also consider a diesel of some description.
