Man Maths Helps Required !!
Discussion
Right - could not think of where else to post this but I thought this a good start.
I need some help with a calculation for dilution. Now I have surfed the web and found loads of sites, but to be honest they twisted my melon and talked in small amounts and measurements I have never heard of. A friend of mine has provided a calculation, but to be honest it is so simple I think it must be flawed
So - the discussion is about fuel and the octane ratings. Forget any variations in quality, for my purposes I will assume all liquids are pure and are exactly the Octane they state.
So - If I fill my tank with 30 litres of Standard Unleaded Fuel rated at 95 Octane and then Add 30 Litres of Super Unleaded at 99 Octane - what is the actual octane rating of the combined 60 litres of fuel - Yep, it is one of those
discussions !!
So the calculation put forward is this - (and I think this is totally flawed by the way)
30 Litres x 95 (Octane) = 2850
30 Litres x 99 (Octane) = 2970
Total = 5820
Then divide this number by the total number of litres (60) and this gives you 97 and THIS is what the suggested Octane rating of the combined 60 litres of fuel will be ...
Really ?? Really ??

Gee thanks for that valuable contribution - appreciated. Obviously I give a f

k because there is a genuine reason behind why we were discussing it in the first place and it was not just a random conversation after too many beers ... NeilH said:

Half of 99 plus half of 95 = 97
