I've been rooting through my MP3 back catalogue recently.
I just lobbed on a copy of The Levellers - A Weapon Called The Word.
Feck me - it's brought back so many 'teenage-hood' memories - and so much of it still sounds as fresh as a daisy & contemporary. So much passion in the music.
No Change was the first song I learned to play on the guitar, and hearing England My Home after so long almost brought a tear to my eye.

k-me - 24 years ago - where the hell did all that time go? I can barely remember what happened last week but I can place myself at the exact time and place when I first heard that album and I still know all the words to every song!

Oh what happened to my green and pleasant land?It is funny isn't it, I think it happens to everyone when putting on something you haven't listened to in a while and then you see the release date and notice how old it is. Whilst surfing the music channels Outkast's Hey ya came on, I still think of it as reasonably recent release and it's 11 years old now apparently!
A Weapon called the Word and Levelling the Land are top albums, I still listen to them regularly, great Friday home time driving music.
But WOW 24 years does make one feel a tad aged. I saw them play at Beautiful Days a couple of years ago (Last tiem I saw them live I was 19) it was wonderful.

I can't help but agree with you, though even as a massive fan of Dub (Lee Scratch Perry etc) I do think they will still mark time with the memories of certain tunes of their day.Heck I've been thinking back through the likes of

(Much to the amusement of my 7yr old son I've decided to play the entire back catalogue of The Levellers - we just hit Forgotten Ground and he ran in insisting that I put him on my shoulders and 'mosh' - I guess those are the moments that mark time)

Last year Goldie released a compilation. Made me realise Drum & Bass was 20 years old! Twenty years old! I remember like it was yesterday and being a spotty teen. Everything was moving quickly in the early 90s, especially 1993, hardcore splitting into Happy Hardcore (still going strong too) and Jungle/D&B; Prodigy were moving towards their own thing; Carl Cox was heading towards techno.I fell in love, divorced then remarried to the scene. I remember the late 90s it was said that D&B was dead because of UK Garage. Was it heck, D&B had evolved that turned some people off, Speed Garage and then UK Garage was music you could easily shake ya booty to.
UKG/2 step was regarded as another fad. It evolved into Grime and Dubstep. Dubstep has been going on for well over 10 years.
Hip hop has been going since the mid 70s, House and Techno since the early 80s.
People who assume something as a fad are generally ignorant - I'm guilty of this myself. It's not for Ignoramus condescenders to decide, its for people in the scene/the coming generation to decide its direction.
Reading the posts above, I'm not sure whether to weep or cry....
I forgot to mention so much, the likes of Carter USM, Oasis, Mondays etc.
I suppose the question and thread moves onwards to ask just what am I missing today?

Thought I heard that the other day!I think it's great to hear these tunes again, and obviously the 'Ad Men' are of a similar ilk now. I remember years and years ago getting into Leftfield and then all of a sudden
one of their tunes turned up on a Guinness advert.The often but far apart times you hear these old tunes on TV is almost warming.
