Alfa Romeo...What's the big deal? Talk to me.....

Ok, ok, I'll admit it, I'm not a fan of most Alfa's. When I say most, I really mean modern ones (love the pre-war F1 cars).
I personally think they are overpriced, not built particularly well and actually not that inspiring to drive. I've tested both the Giulietta and Mito and to be honest it left me feeling a bit 'meh'.
The 4C looks nice, the carbon fiber tub is impressive but again, hugely overpriced and completely impractical. I appreciate that it's not meant to be the most practical of cars but no boot?! Did I mention it's overpriced?
So why do people still love these cars? And why if you dare to say they are crap or you don't like them, are you accused of not being a petrol head? Is this just a company living on the reputation of a few decent steeds of the past?

Over priced compared to what other carbon fibre tubbed sports car released from a mainstream manufacturer? I've only owned Alfas since 2003 - a 145 Cloverleaf, a GT, and now the 159 Ti estate.
I love them. Not sure why, but the looks have a lot to do with it. The modern ones have lovely interiors, too, in my opinion. Compared to the similar-specced German makes, my 159 is such a nicer place to sit in, although I dare say not as dynamic a drive. But just look at it...

Was entirely my intention. I'm not a fan but regard myself as a few octanes more than your usual petrolhead....wanted to know what others feel.Appreciate comments about the Busso V6, I've been driven in one and it was lovely.

Over priced compared to what other carbon fibre tubbed sports car released from a mainstream manufacturer? I had an Alfa 33 sportwagon . It had twin carbs and a boxer 1.7 engine which fizzed and popped, rasped and growled. It was a super little car that took me all the way round Europe some years ago. It rotted through if course, and only the three spoke leather wheel, hanging on my garage wall, reminds me of my Alfa affair.
I personally think Alfa has list it's way a little, I mean aside from the 4C which are nigh on impossible to get, what can you buy? A Mito which must be nocking on 5 years old design and one that's not very nice at that and then a Guileta (probs spelt wrong) which to my eyes are just not very nice.
I really liked the Brera I thought was a lovely looking car and the saloons and estates that were similar to that also looked lovely.
As I say I think they've lost there way.

For me they are a case of style over substance.
Nice to look at but nothing special under the shell. Very competitive pricing and finance deals aim to draw you in but then consider the lousy after sales and insane main dealer servicing costs and it really doesn't seem to make sense as a new car ownership proposition. Fiats are exactly the same.
They still have a great badge and die hard following despite the quality problems. If they could make them rear drive, enjoyable and give them engines that compete with 'premium' brands then I'm sure they'd do well in the Golf & 3 series classes. But they won't because they don't have the money, economies of scale and perceived quality that the bigger manufacturers enjoy.
Used one would be worth a punt though if there's a good independent specialist to hand.
