Collective Wedge brains, I want your thoughts

Below is the creative previous repair on the near side fuel tank. It will obviously need sorting as I plough through the full rebuild on the wee beastie

So here is what I am thinking to.....what option would you do: -

1) see if anyone has a spare / new tank knocking around (likely to cost a small fortune though)
2) have one made up in alloy (same as above, cheap material to buy but cost to weld huge)
3) get rid of the under car tanks and buy an off the shelf fuel cell and pop it in the boot (like the later TVR's)

Thoughts and suggestions all

Hi Mate...I looked into getting mine made by a marine tank maker but they can only make a reserve tank from plastic..Which was a bit odd...I always wondered if a plastic lined kevlar one would be an option??...Maybe a fuel cell in the boot could be the answer as the boot isn't much cop for anything else...(Except if your like me then all the tools and spares you need seem to fit)...Ziga

Well I have a full functioning AA card so could junk the tools and drop a fuel cell in either on the top ledge or in the bottom well area

another thought just hit me idea if I did pop a full cell in the boot

I could use the old tanks, wash them out and line them.........cut out some access hatches in the rear deck or behind the seats to make little cubby holes for tools / jacks etc to replace the lost space in the boot?

Could I have solved a wedge problem scratchchin

Are you sure that isn't already an alloy tank? The steel tanks usually have a welded flange around them and are held in by two detachable straps, that one looks like it could be folded and welded aluminium with the support brackets welded on. I'm sure I recall my Tasmin's tanks looking like that.

Ill have some spare tanks come the end of Sunday!

You are more than welcome to come down and help liberate them from the shell for a reduced beer token swappage!

They could well be alloy as Wedg1e say's...The steel ones have a definite lip all the way around the outer edges and yours has none...You could get them plastic lined but i have heard stories of the plastic breaking down with the amount of additives in modern fuel...Don't know how true it is though?....Ziga

Although sticking a fuel tank in the boot sounds a great way out I would be concerned about a rear end crash, at least the position they are in within the chassis offers some protection to the tanks, in the boot they've got none.

It is a valid point, i thought if tanks in the boot were good enough for the grantura, vixen, M, Taimar, Griffith, Chim etc I could consider it also

I think the tasmin has the best protected tanks in the tvr range

Those plastic / bladder / tank can be pretty squashed and still not leak

You wouldn't want a tank in the boot on the driver's side of a 400SE... if there's a fault with the exhaust (e.g. the tip drops off) it can get pretty hot in there.

I must admit id not bee keen on a fuel tank in the boot of a taz. Std position is very well protected.

Its worth remembering the taz is the last tvr to pass uk and usa crash tests !
