Should I or shouldn't I? Tasmin
Discussion
Hi,
I've been offered a Tasmin via a friend - how much car should I expect for £1800?
I really don't need another project to be honest but I'm still tempted.
I know nothing about old TVRs and don't know the sort of money projects fetch. My understanding is that is it runner but hasn't been road legal for 7-8 years.
What do you think? How good (bad!) should it be for £1800?
Cheers.

It's very difficult to comment on what you should expect for that money without knowing whether it's a V6 or a V8, a hardtop or a convertible. Whichever way it's not going to be pretty.
Depends what you're after really. It will always cost more to bring a rough car to a nice standard than to just buy a nice car in the first place.

I bought my 350i for £1750
For that money, doing the work yourself, budget on spending the same amount of money (at least) again, on getting it back on the road, and be prepared to spend two to three years doing it.
All the brake system will need binning, calipers refurbishing/replacing, rear bushes and trailing arm pins will likely be knackered, so plan on pulling the whole of the rear end out.
All fuel lines will need replacing - plus there'll be lots of other things which will eat up around £250 a pop.
When I'm done with mine, I fully expect it will owe me around £5k - but I'll have a better car than what I could have bought with £5k
If you're looking to buy something for £1800 that you can go out and have fun with straight away, my advice is: Buy a Mazda MX5 or an MGB!
If you don't mind putting a lot more money into the car and a lot of time, go for the TVR.
They're a very rewarding car to drive, and unlike any other sports car I've ever driven
