Just been to see a 56 plate seat ibiza fr pd130 for 3000.

How can i tell if its been ragged about, the previous owner is from a rough part of town but he has been the only owner since new and im buying it from a garage now so cant speak to the owner.

I started it up, no smoke out the exhaust. Revved it, a bit of black smoke but it doesent have a dpf and it was only a small amount. The alloys are scuffed and theres a scuff to the front bumper.

It has a full service history, a service every 10,000 miles, 4 services from a seat dealer, one from a peugeout dealer and then 3 from independant garages. Theres no proof of a belt being changed so will need to do that.

Ive floored it at low revs in 6th, no clutch slip, turbo sounds good, starts up well.

How can i tell if its been used for short journeys or ragged about, its just had the one owner from new.

Rough part of town? Run a mile. I only buy cars from postcodes with a median property value of £800k+

Heavens above, it may have even been driven by a girl!!
I would only ever buy a new car to avoid this potential pitfall.

Find out what it has had in the service if it's a full service or just oil and filter. As for the timing belt should have had it done a few years back im sure these are every 5 years and 60k.

Your taking a gamble with all used cars tbh.

Thier all ticked oil and inspection check so i dont know if that means full, im guessing its a full service, its a bloke on the v5 not a woman, i just assumed as its had alloys kerbed all around and scuffs on the bumper.

If in doubt, move on. Plenty of cars around. If it's too cheap, doesn't look right, or it just doesn't sit right in your mind, walk away.

See if you can find out some reports rather than stamps in a book anybody can do that. One good check is what tyres are fitted if it's running with 4 different ditch finder brands then high chance of it being ragged.

Plenty around it's a buyers market.

Maybe they live in a poor part of town because they spent all their money maintaining the car?
You never know.

I ran a PD 130 for 5 years, tough old things in general. The biggest expense I had with mine was the turbo letting go and that was pretty much without warning!

Other major expenses could be the DMF/clutch but that depends how it's been driven and the mileage on the clock and of course the timing belt as mentioned.

How much did the turbo repair cost?

All in just under £600 including full flush of intercooler/pipes and the required replacement oil and filters.

My car was an ex company car and was on the 20000 mile long life service plan, I don't think that does turbo cars any good personally.

How many miles has the Skoda done?

Sorry for some reason I thought you were looking at a Fabia VRS, it's been a long day...
Anyway, should be loads of life in it yet, especially if it's had regular oil changes.

I liked the PD130 I had, VERY economical and quite nippy for what it was. Apart from the turbo issue I did 80000 miles in mine without any problems.

Some of the most mechanically unsympathetic drivers I know are very well educated, polite, proffesional and financially stable. hehe
