Numpty Humax question

I've just installed my new (to me) Humax Freesat PVR. Amongst the listed channels are ITV player & BBC iPlayer, which (obviously) won't work because I don't have an internet connection into the back of the box. It does, however have an empty USB port.

So, question is - is the USB port powered and could I put a WiFi dongle in there to turn it into some kind of 'smart box'?

I suspect I already know the answer. Nowt is ever that simple...

I've just moved house, and the router is now in a different room to the humax box. I bought a TP-Link TL-WR702N on Amazon for about £18, and it's been faultless. I think the port is powered, but I have the TP thing plugged in to the mains anyway. You need to set it up in client or bridge mode, but it's pretty simple.
