……… yes its official, well in our house at least (touching everything wooden) !!

Both my Cerb & the wife’s Freelander are 1998 models with about 35K on the clock. In the last 12 months the Freelander has let us down badly on two occasions. First time, lost the clutch and end up with new slave and master cylinders. Last week it kept blowing fuel pump fuses, at about 5 second intervals – even a run to the off-license was quite a challenge! The main dealer diagnosed a faulty fuel pump, which when he told me it was submerged in the fuel tank, I told him he was welcomed to do the job. With the Freelander at the dealers, I had to drive my Cerb as the daily hack, I told everyone at work it was proving more reliable than a Landrover, (missed out the Freelander bit in case it lost some of the impact).

Yes the Cerb has had more money lavished on it at services but it just keeps on going – only hitch in last 15 months was when I couldn’t get my golf clubs out of the boot as the doors was having one of those funny moments. The fix was one of those self-cures – just wait 5 minutes.

There you have it, conclusive proof that Cerbera beats Landrover for reliability

A freelander!

Now there's a car famed for unreliability. Have you not had any rust problems yet? The suspension is a bit dodgy too and don't get me started on the electrics.

I know what I'd put my faith in, Cerb every time, well, unless it had 666 on the number plate.

Perm any answer from:

1) Do you play golf?
2) I think a Chimaera would be more to your liking, Sir
3) They All Do That, Sir
4) What! it's been so unreliable, sue the dealer, sue TVR, sue the government, sue the golf club, sue your Aunt Betsy - it just goes to show how everybody was right, I'll never buy another TVR.....

How refreshing! And long may the balance continue in your household.... ....well it'd be nice if your other car became a bit more reliable

Byff, Beano500 – you guys are very sharp so early in the morning

Byff - Yes the Freelander may not be the most reliable but it is mass-produced and my wife likes it. After all, it looks just like a jacked up sports car with the roof sections out, in the dark at least ! Please don’t tell her any different.

Beano500 - No I don’t play golf, I just have the clubs in the boot to get a little more traction on the rear wheels. Thinks of getting one of those golf trolleys next to add more weight for track days.
