Hello I'd be really grateful of some help.

I'm about to buy a non facelift c63 but want to check a few things:

1. Does the non facelift car have a "Sport +" setting? I'm thinking not (not too bothered - main query below which is important, very important )

2. So I was in a nice facelift car yesterday and was told to switch ignition on and set gearbox setting switch to "Sport +" and as I turn the ignition key to give the accelerator a small blip. So the car made an extremely cool almost bang out the exhaust then settled down into the familiar amg rumble. Can anyone advise if you all already knew about this and whether it is possible to do this in a non facelift car even though it may not have that particular gearbox setting?

I'm hoping the earlier cars can do it otherwise I will have to reluctantly adjust the budget.

Thank you.

Thank you. Had some great cars in that time with the help of this site and yes lots of lurking. If I can get some feedback on the above it will decide which model I go for.

haha I don't know who told you that gimick about putting the gearbox in s+ then doing it, The facelift will bark just turning the key with no need to mess about with the gearbox.

The good thing about the facelift is with sport+ when giving it some and changing gear it will bang in between changes and also give loud down shifts

Thanks Phil. Is the facelift car keener to bark more than the older car?

Some mis-information I think.

On my E with C, S, S+ and M, there is a throttle blip on upshift and downshift, but only when in S+ and M and at higher revs.

I believe the pre facelift C63's don't have this feature as they don't have the same gearbox settings.

They all bark on startup (which is great)!

Thank you.

Any chance a non facelift owner could go out to their garage and try a throttle blip start up to see if it makes a loud crack sound?

My facelift C63 barks hardest on first cold start up, hot starts still bark but are less ferocious.

Completely different gearbox in the pre-facelift cars so they don't have the S+. Facelift cars have the wet clutch MCT Quickshift box as opposed to the torque converter box on the pre facelift cars. Either version is noisy and a hell of a lot of fun though, you won't regret buying either one!

Mines is pre face lift and it blips on down shift (with a spurt of flames) and has a really loud crack on up shifts.

Hi Lee, thank you for the reply. Looks like both ages of car have similar amounts of rudeness.

Tomorrow morning can you see what Sport mode and a blip at start up do?

Think I will budget 27.5k for a nice preface lift car.

I'm happy with the running costs I do very few miles and the CLS55 I had was great. I even sold it for a profit. Great car just a little dated inside.

You can't put it in sport until it's already started

He was full of crap, all sport does is change the rev limit at which the auto box changes and gives you the blip on downshift

Epic :-)

If you turn the ignition to the pre-starting position, you can turn to S+, doesn't make the blindest bit of difference IMHO!
It's amazing what we can convince ourselves of......chap at a VW garage prodded the auto box setting to "sport" when I was on a test drive at the weekend and told me what a difference it had just made to the ride! I let him carry on believing obviously !
