Selling a yacht to an American - help on paperwork needed.

I have a British registered yacht which is currently moored in St Vincent. I have sold it to an American who will be registering it with the US Coastguard. All good so far. However, the release paper I have to sign must (apparently) be witnessed by a US notary. This effectively means I need to go to the US embassy and pay $50 for each signature they witness (there are six). Getting to the embassy is going to be a real pain - a 6 hour round trip and a day off work.

Does anyone know if it really has to be witnessed by a US notary? What happens if a non-US seller doesn't have a US embassy in their country?!?

I had to do some notary stuff when I bought my yacht in Croatia.

Expect to pay around £100 for the first document and about £30 per subsequent in the same visit. It's not cheap I'm afraid.

I then had to do the same in Croatia where it cost £4.50.
