Hi

I just wondered if anyone had any good ideas to reduce the brake dust produced on normal driving?

I love to keep my car clean and find my V8 Vantage produces far more brake dust than previous Porsches etc.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

No doubt someone will make a suggestion on pads, but all I can recommend is that you use a good quality wheel wax or sealant. At least it will make the cleaning part easier, even if it is a pain in the ar%e putting it on!

Off course, braking is optional...

Above seconded. I've been using Rimwax (no, it's not something you find in certain type of shops!) since day 1 and my wheels clean off with just water and wax. Never used specialist wheel chemicals on them to get them clean, hope I never have to.

I recently upgraded my discs & pads to High performance alternatives and since then the brake dust has been to a bare minimum.. Even after our track day on Friday at Rockingham where braking from 115/120mph to an almost stand still... My wheels were not horrifically covered in brake dust... Maybe try this????

I find this stuff does help. A bit skeptical at first so I just did one side of the car and after a week, there was a noticeable difference http://www.armorall.com/product-types/wheels/

+1 for Rimwax. Been using it for years.
Does make brake dust easily wash off.
Different pads def help as well.

As above...your sealant of choice...im using Gtechniq for the last 6 years or so

otherwise go on advanced driving training, and learn how to make progress without using the brakes as much so the interval between cleans becomes longer wink

Of no help to the OP but after Rockingham I was surprised at how little brake dust comes off the CCMs on the V12V. Whilst washing I just used soapy water and a wool mitt and any dirt that was there came off easily.

On my last V8V I also used the Amorall and it makes cleaning a lot easier, but of course does not stop the deposits getting onto the rims in the first place.

Change your brake pads to these: http://porterfieldbrakes.co.uk/ (R4-S).

(KarlFranz's recommendation). Dramatically reduced brake dust compared to the OEM Pagid pads.

mmm...worked for me for last 6 years...I only use the soap n water on my wheels and brake dust just wipes off real easy

...I guess it depends on how bad you let the wheels get in the first place and how clean they are when you apply the coating. Dont use any aggressive cleaners afterwards..just the soap you use on the body

I have a '97 DB7 i6 Volante and changed all the pads for EBC Redstuff pads. Also changed the old original discs for new ones - again from EBC. I now get much less dust and I'm delighted with the performance. Incidentally I also changed the flexible hoses for braided ones - supplied by Trinity Engineering. The overall performance is now very much in keeping with modern brakes. Brake fluid should also be changed reasonably regularly as it is hygroscopic - mine was 3% water so if I was in a very cold environment the brake fluid could have frozen leaving me with nil braking!
