911 Race Engine 2015. Mezger GT1?
Discussion
I think they'll race it, or at least they'll race a version of it. Although the failure has been extremely frustrating for owners I don't think it provides any reason to think the engine can't prove itself in the longer term. Race cars need direct injection these days to match the competition's torque and I can't see them reverse engineering the m96.7 Mezger.

I'd be surprised to see a new engine until 2016 (which I am sure that I read somewhere else as the timeline but I haven't a clue where). There is nothing to say that it would be based on either the Mezger or 9A1 though - something entirely new is surely still not impossible. Who knows - it could be a flat 4 Turbo based on the forthcoming Boxster engine, possibly with a hybrid system or something like that... All depends upon what gets the best out of the rules.
The current 4.0 Mezger is probably good for somewhere between 500 to 600hp if it wasn't for competition rules/air restrictors have current GT3 RSRs running reduced power at circa 450bhp. Can't see them replacing 4.0 Mezger for a while as long as it complies with rules and is competitive. God those guys who own 4 litre road cars are lucky boys!

Does anyone have hard confirmation that the Mezger will continue in 2015?
It is October and no replacement has been announced so no, but it looks increasingly unlikely that anything will change. Particularly since the new guy is supposedly doing a complete review of all motorsport activities at Porsche.Does anyone have hard confirmation that the Mezger will continue in 2015?
