Strange behaviour

Car was hibernating in parents garage for about three months, unfortunately they at some point had accidentally unplugged the trickle charger, so last weekend plugged it all in and three days later returned and all ok. Up to the point that whilst the car was running it ran out of fuel! Got fuel and drove the car 15 miles or so home mainly up the M1, developed a slight misfire above 3000rpm but got home ok. Next morning the car wouldn't start, turned over fine but felt like no spark? Eventually started but after a short time would die again, repeat four or five times, then drive again on motorway for about 35 miles, got to destination and then died and now same again and will not start.
Could I have dragged up something through the fuel lines?
