New addition, New EX old bill family motor.

So the Mrs TT has gone as there is no way much more than her and a bag of shopping is going to fit in there once the baby is here so we went on the lookout for a new motor for her.
Something reliable , not to big and safe.
Originally on the lookout for a VW passat 2.0 TDI High line but i was finding high real dogs
A VW Jetta !! this popped up through a contact of the girlfriends old man and for the price it would have been stupid to say no.
Looked smart in the pictures.
It is a 2.0 Tfsi engine, ( the golf mk5 GTI lump) boasting a reasonable 200bhp.Platinum Grey and the GT model so had fancy bits of trim.
No where near as desirable as the golf but IMO a lot more car for the money and the boot is huge which is really what we was after too.
The image the Jetta has is not the best but i really dont know why as it seems to be a great car and the price they are makes them a steal!
Now... The big one.. Is was an Ex police car it turns out, 100k on the clock, but drives superbly, Engine is quite, Pulls very well, as 200bhp should i suppose, handles lovely, Discs and pads,Tyres all brand new, oil lovely and fresh, Engine bay even looks clean!!.
Interior is excellent too!.
Iv been hearing the ( wouldn't touch an ex old bill car with a barge poll) but this really does seem like a good solid motor and for that reason i will be holding on to this one
There are the odd additions that have been removed like the "Loop" siren buttons in the sunglasses overhead holder and four steel brackets in he boot that look to have been mountings for some sort of rack. This all makes it more interesting for me and i would love to know what past it has had.
So far i am impressed by it and most of all the Mrs is happy

I've had mine ( 2.0l TSI, Highline trim level, all the goodies ), for nearly a year now, and I love it! It's a severly underrated car, and, at least here in Germany, hardly anyone knows what it is. Since I've had mine, I've only ever seen one other one on the road, and that was on dutch plates. The driver gave me a wave as I overtook him!
Apart from the fact that it's lovely to drive, and suprisingly quick for what it is, I love the fact that they're so rare. Everybody here drives Golfs, Passats or Audi A4's ( and then mostly bloody diesels ), all like peas in a pod
It's nice to have a car that is a bit different, and one that's capable of surprising other road users who don't take it seriously ( at first )

Thats good to hear ben Lower arms need to be replaced but thats pretty much it and i can tackle those myself. I am surprised at how well it looks to have been looked after as there are a few stories online of the majority of ex police motors being real dogs.
As for the dull image of the jetta i really do like it, this particular model is basically a Golf GTI With a boot. ok , so without a few of the GTI features but it goes as good feels good to drive and has the legs to surprise plenty,having the "Jetta" badge on the rear makes it even better lol

The steel brackets in the boot would have been for mounting the radio. As it is a 2.0t its too much for a standard police driver permit. It is also too small for traffic or ARV as they need bigger vehicles for kit.
I recon it probably was a vehicle used by a department like anti terrorism ect. It's was defiantly undercover as they would have not have hidden the switches away if it didn't need to look totally normal inside. So your car has probably never been driven in anger at all. I know a lot about police vehicles and use them regularly, I would never buy an ex response panda car. They get driven very hard indeed and thrashed from cold on average every other day whilst doing 120k in three years. Enjoy your Car

Tried it mate, nothing pops up, I email Sussex constabulary as the start of the plate GX told me it was registered first in brighton and had a nice reply from the fleet manager but didn't give any info about the cars life, just let me know when it was sold basically and that was pretty much it.
