I'm still pondering whether to purchase a GT3 and am somewhat wary of getting a Gen 2 due to the centre lock wheels.

Can someone please briefly outline the situation with regard to the service requirements and maintenance of them, and also what is needed if you are going to look after them yourself?

If you aren't doing track days then it's not an issue in the slightest - unless u get a puncture which is a slight pita.
If u are doing track days then it's a pita - but at least it won't catch fire - log onto the porscheclubgb forum - all the maintenance schedules are listed under the GT3 forum.

And even on track the schedule is pretty reasonable. You'd have to lots of track days at 8/10ths or more of the car's capability for it to be a problem IMO.

If you do a couple of track days and don't push the car to its limits you will be more than fine with the CL wheels.

you have to get them serviced, I think the time inbetween is 4x more if you don't do track days.

than after a certain amount of miles you have to replace all 4 hubs.

Don t worry about all the overblown negative hype on the centre locks....they are fine unless you are a regular heavy track user....yes

Stick to OPCs or experienced Indies only for removal......punctures are no problem use either Porsche Assist or join a good breakdown service like the AA who if you have the relevant cover, from £65, will recover the car and take to an OPC or Indy of your choice....thumbup

It wouldn't deter me from buying, but it would be somewhat more expensive - about £4k - to keep a separate set of centrelocks for winter tyres - if, like me, you don't like the idea of all four tyres being spooned on and off the lovely rims twice a year. That's nearly double the cost of standard winter wheels.

Thanks for the replies.

I would envisage doing around 4 track days a year if I was to purchase one.

You'll be right. I use mine as a DD and do 4-8 track days a year without any issues.

So that might be 800-1000 track miles. Dependant on how hard you push the car I think you'd be fine for a long time.

Personally I probably use 5/10ths of the car's capability on track in terms of corner loading and braking etc and I don't think that's unusual. That's probably 7/10ths of my own capability as a driver and is the right balance for me. The car isn't breaking a sweat and I minimise the risk of an accident. Frequent checks and oil changes to ensure the car is in good health and I have happy motoring :-)

if I remember correctly, hubs need replacing after 4000 track miles.

if no track miles, no replacement necessary.
