Hi, appreciate some assistance.

When we got the car it had been sitting for a while. I replaced the ARB bushes and it was clear that the tracking was out, steering rack very dry and power steering pump leaking.

We had the rack lubed and pump re-built and had the tracking done (out 8mm and 9mm). Collected the car and all was good, felt spot on and steering wheel lined up. This was two weeks ago.

Over the last two weeks we have felt it change, being slightly heavier to turn one way and the steering wheel not lining up.

Back to the garage, they first checked everything was still done up. It was, tracking checked....out 7mm each side!

Does anyone have any idea why this would be? Thanks

Richard

Have you checked the camber bolts are still tight / not moved?

As Lars implies, unless you have hit something like a big pothole, I would also suspect that something else in the front suspension adjustment has shifted, with the knock-on effect of changing the toe.

There is far more to these cars than twiddling the track rod ends. If you have not had a full geometry setup within the last few years I'd suggest now's the time to get one.

If it is harder to turn one way rather than the other I would be tempted to say your caster angles on the front have shifted out of spec.

It could well the the rear wishbone mounts, known as caster mounts have perished and driving has knocked them out of geometry. If you replace them, use the 968 versions which are much more robust.

As a quick basic check also make sure the rack was centred when it was fitted - from the wheel at at straight ahead it should turn the same amount (number of turns) to the left or right.

Thanks folks - I think we have it sorted. I think something was not done up properly by the garage, to be fair they re did it all for free and it has been fine since....just wish they would admit what it was to save me worrying about it
