Online tax disc scam...

You lot have probably been over this already, but a bloke at work just got caught out by this.

Looks identical to the DVLA site, but they add £40 to the fee before you get the tax disc.

It does mention this in the right corner, but he didnt look carefully enough.

Quite why he didnt just type the address on the reminder form I dont know, but I just thought Id leave this here in case its not been seen before.

Its not a scam but it does pray on people not paying attention.

There's places doing passports also.

I do wonder why/how people do this, searching 'tax disk' in Google brings the official government site up on the first result.
Someone I know did it with a birth certificate, after I advised them not to use the site they were on.

Its the same people . They also have a similar scam with driving tests.

But they do take your photograph and are up front on their site as to the split in the fees.

Can't see it mentioned on there, but if you hold a current passport you don't need a photo to renew your licence - they use the passport photo.

I did mine online for just the £20.
Got my licence back within a week without leaving my comfy chair.

I agree, in this especially, as the address is printed on the reminder.

Still not sure why you'd use taxdisk-direct instead of the government site directly below.

Easy to say that but there are people who are conned that are probably switched on. There are sites geared up for this same as cheap biscuits copying branding. They are aiming for people to trip up.

Ironic that the scam site uses the word "direct" in the domain name when in fact it is totally "indirect".

It also goes in their internal mail to DVLA, so the risk of things going missing in the 'care' of Royal mail is reduced by 50% , the photo is guaranteed to be accepted by DVLA and it's a quicker turnaround (by a couple of days) in my recent experience .
