Ford Fiesta Mk2 1.1 Ghia

Hi there, well i've gone and bought a very slow, rusting piece of crap but hopefully it will become a nice little run-around...
Bought for £200, 59k on the clock with it's fringes being eaten away by rust, I have purchased it from an old lady who we've known for years, she's had to stop driving due to her age.
At first it was meant to be a simple dog carrying car to take over from my 250 but after giving it a good wash and once over, myself and swmbo have kind of fallen in love with it...
Plans are...get the clutch fixed (it was extremely hard to get moving!) approximately £300.
Address the rust- its pretty bad around the sills and arches and has had some tremendously awful botch repairs done (see pics).
A new aerial.
Get it through an MOT, which includes a new headlight, number plates and possibly other issues.
There are some bits of rust that are close to the shocks and in the boot so first job will be the MOT to see if its worth saving- i hope so!

Now to be honest, i've never really been into cars mechanically, Dad wasn't interested so i never got the chance, but now thats all about to change- i've bought a Haynes manual and plan to get stuck in...if the car stays!

So i hope this will bring back some fond memories for those of you who remember this 26yr old type of car and please any information or help/guidance no matter how small will be much appreciated!

So many memories had a bright Rosso Red one before i took hold of a MK2 XR2 in also Rosso Red ! love the little MK2 .

Ghia - very posh. Had an 83A 957cc Pop Plus as my first car.

I had similar D reg one! Same age as me when I had it, used it for a year with no issues whatsoever. Makes me want another seeing this!

Ah the Fez, my mate had a 1.1 which we used to go everywhere in, had front arches constructed of filler. Great cars.

Love it. This is the height of luxury compared to my first car, a 950cc mk1 popular. I always turn my head at mk1 and mk2 Fiestas.

No advice other than, whatever you pay will be worth it. I'm not an expert but I can see these going up in value steadily.

All Mk2 Fiesta's are worth saving!

Another first car, a 1.1 Pop+ (Before a Mk3 1.1 LX and a Mk3.5 1.6 Si) which I reckon was my best buy ever. £50 and in nice condition, only 2 rear trailing arms (£10 from scrappy) to get through MOT



Unfortunately it ended like this.



Wish I'd put it back on the road. Seriously considering another, but good examples are getting pricey! If yours is good I reckon you got a bargain.

I once dragged a big branch from a tree into the back of a mates ghia whilst drunk. he wasn't too pleased.

The Ghia must be quite a rare car, particularly in such original condition. There seems to be quite a bit of interest in them, so I can also see this going up in value over time.

Love it! Mum always had fiestas back then, dad would never pay the premium for more than an L.
Does it have electric Windows?

Looks like moonstone blue, my favourite Ford colour back then.
Dad had a Granada that colour.
